Making a memory makes a difference. The volunteers who help with our Chapter programs provide vital support to people with Alzheimer's disease and those who care for them.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

Memories in the Making©

For someone with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias, picking up a paintbrush can be a stroke of wonder - a chance for unexpected creative expression. How can you help?

- Artist Facilitator: Memories in the Making is an innovative art program that provides individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias with a means of creative expression through watercolor. Lead a group as they create watercolor paintings that often become family treasures. Facilitator training is available. For more information on Memories in the Making, contact Karen Clond at 913.831.3888 or

- Exhibit Assistant: You don't need to be an artist to be part of this incredible program! Assistants help transport, set-up, and promote Memories in the Making public art displays.

Music and Memory

- iPod Drive: The Heart of America Chapter always needs iPods to distribute to people with Alzheimer's disease who participate in this program. Host a party to collect new and gently used iPods for donation. Or, ask friends and family to donate iTunes gift cards.

- Playlist Creator: Not everyone likes rock and roll. Our musical preferences are personal, and that never changes. Playlist Creators chat with the individuals and family members in this program, and then create personalized song collections most likely to match their memories.

Alzheimer's disease is all around us. The power to stop it is within us. To learn more about these volunteer opportunities, please contact Katherine Rivard at or 913.831.3888.
