Joe lives in West Paducah, Kentucky and is retired.

How long have you been involved with the Alzheimer’s Association?

I have been volunteering with the Alzheimer's Association for 20 years – since 1999.

In what ways do you volunteer?

I conduct a monthly support group in Mayfield, KY attended by 12-20 caregivers.

Why do you support the Association?

My mother had Alzheimer’s disease and died 2 years ago. She was diagnosed 15 years after we started our support group. As a result of everything I learned from our support group and the Alzheimer's Association, I knew what to expect as her disease progressed.

What impact do you feel your work with the Alzheimer’s Association has on the community?

The caregivers greatly benefit from the support group interaction. We learn from each other and share with friends and family in our community.

Why would you encourage others to support the Association?

I encourage anyone with interest in Alzheimer’s disease to get involved with the Alzheimer's Association.

What else are you involved in within your community?

I also serve on the Generations Adult Day Care board.
