The Alzheimer’s Association provides vital services and support to individuals, families and care partners in the community. Volunteers contribute in all aspects of the organization, including program services, education, advocacy and development. Training is available for our volunteer positions.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s@ volunteers are currently being recruited for all walk locations. Register for a Walk or email firstname.lastname@example.org to serve on Walk day.
Help shape laws at the federal, state or local level by talking with legislators and educating them about Alzheimer-related issues. Association advocates have successfully raised government funds for Alzheimer's research and improved access to care and support services for people in their communities. Join us as an advocate.
Mission Enhancement Center Volunteer: Stop in and help make phone calls, prepare mailings and packets, type, file or perform other needed office-related services at our Timonium location. Most volunteers are “on-call” Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Community Outreach Volunteers: Attend local health fairs, social events, sporting events, charity campaigns and other public venues to provide information about our services and Alzheimer’s disease. This is a great way to learn about Alzheimer's and serve your community. Training and materials provided. Locations and times vary. Some events are held out of doors. Must be age 21 and older.
Community Outreach Education Presenter: Be trained to provide brief educational presentations in your community about Alzheimer’s disease and the Association’s services. Flexible times. One year commitment. Must be age 21 and older.
Helpline Specialist: Extensive training provided to answer calls relating to Alzheimer’s and other dementias and give support and referrals to callers at our Timonium office. Requires a one year commitment. Must be age 21 and older.
Fundraising Events Volunteer: Be a part of the excitement at various fundraising events from our Memory Balls to one of our six Walks to End Alzheimer's. There are many ways to get involved—from planning committees to day-of-event helpers. All ages are welcome on event day. This is a great way for students to get community service hours.
Support Group Facilitator: Educate people about dementia and care options, offer helpful advice on a variety of topics, and provide support at monthly meetings. As a support group facilitator, you will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as research in the field and, services that are available to people who live with the disease. Consistency is vital to the success of any support group. For that reason, volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one year as a facilitator of a monthly support group.
The purpose of the support group is to:
- Educate people about dementia and care options
- Offer helpful advice about issues such as behaviors, safety, legal and financial matters
- Inform participants about the array of services that the Alzheimer’s Association offers to caregivers and people with dementia
- Provide mutual support in an accepting and supportive atmosphere
