Person with Dementia Support Groups

Person with Dementia Support Groups are free of charge and are geared towards individuals who have recently been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment or dementia and are in the early stage of the disease progression. All support groups are facilitated by a trained Alzheimer’s Association Support Group Facilitator and meet at various locations and times. Virtual support groups are also available. Individuals are required to connect with the Alzheimer’s Association prior to joining the group. Please call our 24/7 Helpline at 1.800.272.3900 for more information.

Caregiver Support Groups

Our Caregiver Support Groups are free of charge and open to the general public. All support groups are facilitated by a trained Alzheimer’s Association Support Group Facilitator and meet at various locations and times. Virtual support groups are also available. Most Caregiver Support Groups are for all types of dementia caregivers, although there are also specific groups designed for specific populations.

Caregiver Support Groups offer:

  • Talk through challenges and ways of coping

Moving Forward - Life After Dementia Caregiving (For Partners)

This group is designed for spouses who have recently lost their partner due to Alzheimer’s and all other types of dementia. Although grief and loss are discussed at this group, this is not a typical grief group. The group focuses on building connections with others who understand the unique challenges of losing a spouse due to dementia and moving forward, life after dementia caregiving.

Volunteer and Start a Support Group

Alzheimer's disease or another dementia is life-changing for both those who are diagnosed and those close to them. Our support groups provide a place to connect with others who truly understand.

Support Group facilitators are:

  • Good Listeners
  • Problem-solvers
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Comfortable with expressions of emotion
  • Knowledgeable or willing to learn about Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and caregiver issues
  • Open to being trained as an affiliated volunteer support group facilitator with a commitment of at least one year
