Support Groups

We offer general dementia caregiver, specialty caregiver, and persons living with dementia support groups. Support groups create a safe, confidential, supportive environment and offer a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop coping methods and skills to solve problems.

Person with dementia support groups are specifically designed for individuals that have recently been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment, or any type of dementia, and are in the early stage of the disease.

General dementia caregiver support groups are designed for individuals who have cared for or are caring for a person with any type of dementia.

Specialty caregiver support groups may be for Young Adults, Adult Children, caregivers impacted by Younger Onset Dementia, and caregivers who have recently lost someone to dementia. See below to find a group that best meets your needs.

To join the group call the support group facilitator or email and learn more.

*Due to COVID, all Alzheimer’s Association programs and services delivered in person will
require each participant to wear a mask and social distance.

Dementia Health Care Employee

This support group is designed for health care employees who are personally caring for someone with dementia. Personally supporting someone with dementia can look very different than professionally caring for someone with dementia. You may intuitively know what dementia is and how to respond, but the relationship dynamics sometimes influence the interactions with someone with dementia differently than in a professional role. This support group will encourage members to share information, give and receive mutual support, and exchange coping skills with one another. Support group members can share practical suggestions for caring based on their personal caregiving experiences. Caring for an individual with dementia requires different techniques than those needed to care for someone who is not cognitively impaired which makes this group unique. Experienced care partners have found that some methods of providing care, ideas that may not be found in books or articles, can make caregiving easier. Sharing those ideas in a support group can prevent care partners from having to “re-invent the wheel."
