The annual Caregiver Seminar is one of the Alzheimer's Association's most informative and enjoyable ways of helping both family caregivers and healthcare professionals better understand the characteristics of dementia and how to care for the people who have it. Each year, the Alzheimer's Association schedules experts in the area of dementia care to present a day-long seminar on caring for people with dementia.

About the speakers

Keith N. Fargo, PhD is Director of Scientific Programs and Outreach for the Alzheimer’s Association.
He oversees the Alzheimer’s Association TrialMatch® program, a service that connects people with
ongoing research in their region. He also manages
the Alzheimer’s Association scientific publications,
including “Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal
of the Alzheimer’s Association” and “Alzheimer’s
Disease Facts and Figures.”
Pat Gleason-Wynn, PhD, LCSW, CSW-G, RN is a clinical social worker and a registered nurse. She
has worked with older adults and their caregivers for the past thirty-six years. As a former university professor,
she taught about aging, end of life, mental health, and
long-term care issues. Her mother was diagnosed with
Alzheimer’s dementia in 2010. Pat and her siblings are
familiar with the ups and downs of loving and caring
for someone with dementia.
Jeffery Masiongale is a ballroom dancer. He was certified in 1995 by the United States Ballroom Dance
Association and has competed internationally. In 2004, Jeff began working with long-term care facilities
and noticed dramatic changes in the affect of
individuals who participated in his dance programs.
Susan Edwards, MPS is a psychotherapist with 30 years
experience working in family systems therapy. She has helped clients understand how the survival strategies we learned in our family of origin affect our lives today. Ms. Edwards has also trained caregivers through programs designed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Louis and is a certified instructor of the Stress-Busting Program
for family caregivers.
