The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter is a non-profit organization funded through contributions from individuals and businesses. The Chapter also receives grant funds from private foundations and govemment, including the State of Alzheimer's Respite Line Item which is administered by the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc; Area Agency on Aging, 3; and Ohio District 5, Area Agency on Aging.
The Northwest Ohio Chapter is one of 76 Chapters that make up the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Northwest Ohio Chapter has a local Advisory Board composed of local health care professionals, service providers, business leaders, and family caregivers.
In 1981, local efforts started around the topic of Alzheimer’s, which resulted in meetings of the Toledo Family Support Group, to provide support, education and information to caregivers and other family members. The group received Chapter status with the Alzheimer’s Association in October, 1985.
On December 31, 2001, the North Central Ohio Chapter (Mansfield), and the West Central Ohio Chapter (Lima), joined the Northwest Ohio Chapter and an additional office was opened in Findlay. Headquartered in Toledo, we currently operate offices in Findlay and Mansfield, as well as Toledo.
We serve 24 counties in Ohio, which has a prevalence rate of about 32,000 individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and 96,000 caregivers and family members affected by the disease.
