New York, NY – February 11, 2019
– The Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter, today announced, “What if you couldn’t remember…?” a social media marketing campaign in honor of Black History Month. Throughout the month of February, the campaign will highlight recent moments of black excellence and ask, “What if you couldn’t remember…?” Using Black History Month as a catalyst, the campaign encourages all New Yorkers, especially African Americans, to call the Alzheimer’s Association care and support helpline, 800-272-3900, if they or someone they love is experiencing memory problems.

“African Americans make up 20 percent of the 5.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and are about two times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than whites,” said Chelsea-Lyn Rudder, director of communications for the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter. “Our goal is to encourage a critical conversation about dementia and it’s disproportionate impact on black America using moments that are dear to our community.”

The social media campaign will appear on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The campaign will highlight recent moments in local, state and national black history, including the election of President Barack Obama and the election of Letitia James, the first African American and first woman elected attorney general of the State of New York.
