Arts Engagement for Individuals Living with Dementia and Their Care Partners

artNOW was developed in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association’s Oregon Chapter and the Portland Art Museum. It combines discussion-based Gallery Tours of the Portland Art Museum and art-making classes in the Portland Art Museum studio for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Creative activity in the museum studio encourages experimentation with a wide variety of materials.

artNOW is an arts engagement program for individuals living with dementia and their care partners to enjoy a creative and relaxing afternoon together.  Designed for people with young-onset or early to mid-stage dementia; artNOW provides opportunities to enjoy conversation, works of art, and new experiences in the Portland Art Museum galleries and studio.

Specially trained museum educators, and gallery guides lead discussion-based tours highlighting works of art at the Portland Art Museum galleries. These conversations create an exchange of ideas without relying on short-term memory or recollection of art historical information.

artNOW is free, but space is limited and reservations are required. Call 1-800-272-3900 for more information or to register.
