LECOM Health named Presenting Sponsor
of the 2022 Erie Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Health system donates $15,000 toward the fight
ERIE, PA, April 8, 2022
to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia
– The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Pennsylvania is pleased to announce LECOM Health as the 2022 presenting sponsor for the Erie Walk to End Alzheimer’s to be held on September 24, 2022 in Perry Square. LECOM Health has made a gift of $15,000 to support the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support and research. On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.
“LECOM Health is an academic health system focused on helping to bring a lifetime of wellness to those who matter most to you,” said John M. Ferretti, D.O., President of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. “Our specialists, primary care physicians and staff are proud to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s and promote awareness of the disease.”
“The Alzheimer’s Association draws hundreds of walkers and teams to the event each fall and it is a pivotal event to spread community awareness and concern for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Sara Giammarise, Walk Director for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter. “LECOM Health’s presenting sponsorship will allow us to increase our work in the community, reach more families affected, advocate for policy change and ultimately help us find a cure for this disease. Corporate involvement is an absolute must and LECOM Health has set the bar high this year.”
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Pennsylvania alone, there are more than 280,000 people living with the disease and over 500,000 caregivers.
