Individuals with Suspected Non-Alzheimer’s Pathology (SNAP) have damaged nerve cells, loss of brain volume and, in many cases, a decline in cognitive functions. To better understand SNAP, scientists are trying to understand its causes and how these brain changes progress in different people. Dr. Swati Rane proposes to leverage the (Global Alzheimer’s Association Interactive Network) GAAIN platform datasets and identify a large sample of individuals with SNAP. Dr. Rane will then compare brain changes in individuals with SNAP, to cognitively unimpaired brains as well as cognitively impaired brains including those with Alzheimer’s-like brain changes. If successful, the study results could help identify the patterns of brain changes that could become biological markers for SNAP as well as understand distinct biological mechanisms that underlie SNAP.
