A novel deep learning algorithm for classification of dementia subtypes

In this project, Sebastian Gabriel Moguilner will develop a sophisticated algorithm using advanced computer science techniques to analyze brain changes observed in brain scans to predict Alzheimer’s disease and behavioral variant Frontotemporal Dementia. Behavioral variant Frontotemporal Dementia is characterized by prominent changes in personality and behavior that often occur in people in their 50s and 60s. Moguilner will test this algorithm using brain scan datasets obtained from clinics within Latin American Countries (LAC). Moguilner’s goal is to develop a mobile application (an app) for clinical use based on this algorithm. If successful, this study could pave the way for a cost-effective biological marker to diagnose Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
