ROCHESTER, NY, Oct. 17, 2022] – Rochester and Finger Lakes area residents participated in this year’s Rochester Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. Participants raised nearly $250,000 to help fund the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association. Donations for this Walk and the chapter’s additional two Finger Lakes Walks will be accepted through Dec. 31, 2022.

“Our Walk to End Alzheimer’s is our largest fundraiser each year,” said Teresa Galbier, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association Rochester Finger Lakes Chapter. “Thousands of people from across our nine-county region come out to help raise awareness and funds for our robust research and our full complement of free programs and services. We couldn’t be happier with the turnout at our second Walk of the season and we are so grateful for the support we receive from the community.”

Rich Marlin, a financial adviser with Edward Jones, served as Walk Chairman of the Rochester Walk this year.

With a fundraising goal of $2,500, Team Durhopske quickly surpassed that goal to become our top team, raising more than $15,000 to date. St. Ann’s Community has raised more than $11,000 for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Jim Gulley, who has lived with Alzheimer’s disease for seven years, single-handedly raised nearly $6,000 for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s this year. Jim’s team, SJC Team Penfield, surpassed its goal of $8,000 by 150 percent this year, landing in our top five fundraising teams at $11,985.

Nearly 1,500 people joined Jim, the Durhopske team and URMC at this year’s Walk at Frontier Field breaking all previous records for attendance. Pre-walk festivities included a children’s play area with clowns, a dance troupe, a marching band and much more.
