On March 6-10, we'll hold a virtual week of action to raise awareness among our state legislators and ask for their support for SC families facing Alzheimer's or other dementia. With just a few minutes each day, you can make a big impact in support of key policies in our state.

Sign up today by texting ALZSC to 52886. You'll receive details about the quick daily actions you can take, no matter where you are or what your schedule looks like.

Our ask this year is bigger and bolder than ever: to get South Carolina on the map for top-tier clinical trials.

  • For years, South Carolinians living with Alzheimer’s have had extremely limited access to clinical trials for new Alzheimer’s treatments. When able, many have chosen to travel for hours at their own expense to pursue eligibility for treatment trials.
  • To ensure access to clinical trials across our state, South Carolina needs to secure an Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) designation from the National Institute on Aging (NIA).
  • We’re seeking a one-time state investment of $10 million to support our research universities in strengthening their research programs in the dementia space to be competitive in applying for an ADRC designation. This modest investment could drastically increase trial access through a multi-site ADRC, improve quality of care and unlock unprecedented funding streams for dementia research in our state.

Like to plan ahead? Here's a sneak peek at our planned advocacy activities:

March 6 - Make Monday Matter!
Kick off the week by emailing your state legislator in support of continued funding for the State Alzheimer’s Plan and the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). We’ll provide a link that makes it quick and easy to send a message —and tweet them too, if you choose!

March 7 - Share it Tuesday!
Create a 1 - 2 minute video to share your journey with Alzheimer’s for your state legislators and share on social media. We will provide a script to help you get started!

March 8 - Working Wednesday!
Share our advocacy campaign with your friends, family, and colleagues to encourage them to join you. Reach out via email, text or social media to share our link to take action. We will provide a link that makes it quick and easy to send a message!

March 9 - Throwback Thursday!
For #SCALZThrowbackThursday, we invite you to share a throwback photo of your loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia, or a picture of you at one of our SC State House Advocacy Days (or several from all the years you attended).

March 10 - Old School Friday!
Time to go old school! Take a few minutes to write a personal letter to your legislator sharing your story. Mail it with a copy of a photo so they can see the faces of Alzheimer’s and dementia in their district. We can provide you with a mailing address!

Please feel free to share this far and wide... the more people we have going purple this week, the bigger impact we can make!
