Professional Training

Is your staff prepared to care for people with dementia? More than half of long-term care residents have dementia.

The Alzheimer's Association is committed to helping professionals improve their knowledge and skills, build stronger teams and deliver better care to people with dementia and their families. Our training and education programs are geared to professionals working in both community-based and residential care settings.

Our programs and meetings have been attended by activity professionals, administrators, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and staff trainers.

Studies show staff trained specifically in dementia care are able to provide a better quality of life for residents and have increased confidence, productivity and job satisfaction.

We can help you deliver quality dementia care. The Alzheimer’s Association dementia care training program for residential communities will give your direct care staff the specialized knowledge and skills to be more productive and deliver a higher quality of dementia care.

Our highly interactive training program features:

  • Classroom
  • Multimedia and hands-on training
  • Care strategies for all stages of dementia
  • Supervisory training to foster stronger care teams

The Alzheimer's Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter has been approved by the Department of Social Services to provide training required by 22 VAC 40-72-1120 of the Standards for Licensed Assisted Living Facilities.

*You can request a professional training workshop to come to your workplace. The cost for this is $100 per hour. Requests should be submitted to infoseva@alz.org or you can call the chapter at 757.459.2405.
