Barron will lead the chapter in growing local educational programs, care and support services, advocacy initiatives, and fundraising for local and global research. Barron will also serve as the Alzheimer’s Association Regional 3 Leader, overseeing the four chapters serving Central and Southern California (California Central Coast, California Southland, San Diego and Orange County).

Although new to the role, Barron’s already lead the chapter to significant increases across service areas as well as in building its corporate initiatives.

The California Southland Chapter offers more than 40 free educational programs and support groups per month and 24/7 support through its Alzheimer’s Association Helpline (800.272.3900). Responding quickly to COVID-19, the chapter offers caregiving tips online and via the Helpline, a service of particular importance to Barron. During her time as an undergraduate, she took a year off from college to become a full-time caregiver for her grandmother.

“I’m proud to be part of an Association that fights Alzheimer’s disease from every angle and serves caregivers across the country with one-to-one and group support,” said Barron. “I took care of my grandmother, and I also helped with several family members who faced Alzheimer’s.  Supporting families while searching for a cure drives this chapter.”

Barron has also increased the availability of Lunch and Learns, a program through which the chapter provides free Alzheimer’s education to a corporation’s employees.

Southern California is one of the most-funded research regions in the country by the Association, and under her leadership, Barron intends for the region to become an even greater research hub.

“We have the greatest scientific minds right here in our own backyard,” said Barron. “I believe in partnerships and in moving forward as a community to fight Alzheimer’s- our local researchers are unparalleled and I can’t wait for those relationships to grow.”

With more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit executive roles, Barren most recently served as the executive director and regional leader of the San Antonio and South Texas chapter. Her career spans the arts, family relations and museums. Meg holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Richmond University, London, and a master’s degree in Museum Studies from the City University of New York.
