Volunteer Spotlights

Sept 18, 2017: A statement from one of our wonderful Capital of Texas volunteer, Vincent Hao:

"I am a high school student who attends the Liberal Arts and Science Academy. I began working with Alzheimer's Association last year, when Kari discovered the organization and convinced me to join. I didn't have any incredible expectations for my volunteer work, but I did think the cause was very important and I liked that I was trusted to work on things such as marketing that I found engaging. My turning point came when I volunteered at last year's Walk to End Alzheimer's. Watching the flowers held up in unison at the event by all of the people who participated touched me in a very deep way, and I felt incredibly happy that I helped in making that possible. My continued work with Alzheimer's Association has been equally rewarding. This year, I was able to work closely with the wonderful people at the Capital of Texas Chapter on the Facebook Scavenger Hunt we created. The process of designing this event was equally frustrating and rewarding, with constant stress over attendance and marketing and weather issues weighing upon me. However, as everything slowly worked out, I was very proud of what I had been able to accomplish. It's become intimately obvious that designing and planning events is incredibly difficult, which has made me even more grateful for Alzheimer's Association in how hard they work to fight the disease and improve lives."
