Dear Friends,

Our hearts are with everyone in Houston and the Gulf Coast of Texas who has been affected by Hurricane Harvey. The safety and well-being of our constituents, colleagues, and partners, as well as, all the residents of the area remain our top concern. As an organization, we are heartbroken over the terrible impact imposed on our neighbors to the south and hope for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for the outpouring of care and the desire to aid our Houston and south Texas Alzheimer’s Chapters. Our Houston team, along with the entire Texas Region is working diligently to stay in contact with our constituents, caregivers, and medical professionals to stay informed, so that we can work to assist and provide support wherever necessary.

As the community continues to assess the impact, we will need to gain strength from each other to move forward in solidarity. To that aim, our team here in Dallas has been working proactively with many of the agencies coordinating evacuations and temporary shelter. Our team, along with many of our care partners have been working on strategies to insure any persons dealing with dementia or Alzheimer’s, who are displaced by Harvey's impact, will have proper attention and care to help minimize the stress this event has on the their lives. Additionally, many of the first responders and shelter volunteers have, or will benefit from the Alzheimer’s Association intensive training program for dealing with individuals who have Alzheimer’s or other dementia.

We also applaud and thank the first responders, members of law enforcement and medical personnel and the countless volunteers who are working tirelessly to aid the communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

To those with friends and family impacted by the storm, we hope they stay safe and we continue to send best wishes from the entire Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Dallas Chapter. The city of Houston and the Gulf Coast remains in our thoughts.
