Congress can connect patients to an early and accurate dementia diagnosis
This is a “mammogram moment” for Alzheimer’s — and Congress can deliver it. Researchers have developed blood tests that can detect Alzheimer’s before symptoms appear, but a legal barrier prevents Medicare from covering them. The result: fewer than 10% of people living with mild cognitive impairment ever receive a diagnosis. The bipartisan Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act clears that roadblock, creating a pathway for Medicare coverage so people can benefit from early detection when it matters most.
