Bill Gates: The newest Champion in the fight against Alzheimer's disease
Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has announced that he's joining the fight against Alzheimer's by investing $100 million: $50 million personally now and $50 million later from his foundation for start-up efforts dedicated to research. Gates said his family has a history of Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Association welcomes Gates and applauds his efforts to seek an end to this devastating disease. Learn more.

Marital status associated with dementia risk
People who are married may have a lower risk of developing dementia compared to single people, new research suggests. The researchers cautioned that the study doesn't demonstrate a causal relationship between marital status and dementia risk but simply a correlation. The possible protective effect is most likely linked to lifestyle factors, such as an overall healthier lifestyle or increased social activity, which may result from living with a spouse or partner. Alzheimer's semipostal stamp dedicated
The U.S. Postal Service has joined the effort to raise awareness and contribute to Alzheimer's research and care with the new Alzheimer's Semipostal Stamp. Congratulations to NARFE member Kathy Siggins for all her behind the scenes work to make this stamp a reality. Kathy, pictured here receiving special recognition from U.S. Postmaster General Megan Brennan, attended the Day of Issue dedication ceremony at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
