NARFE May

June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, a global initiative to raise awareness, encourage action and create dialogue about Alzheimer's and all other dementia. We encourage you to get involved and invite you to join our Facebook group, tell your story and go purple — the color of Alzheimer's. We're so thankful to our NARFE partners for joining us in the fight against Alzheimer's and helping spread the word. The more people know about Alzheimer's, the more action we inspire.

Advisory panel votes for approval of Alzheimer's drug lecanemab
A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel has voted unanimously that the Alzheimer's drug lecanemab (Leqembi™) shows "clinical benefit" for the treatment of the disease, paving the way for full approval. The Alzheimer's Association welcomes and celebrates this action to support traditional approval of Leqembi for people living with early Alzheimer's. Learn more.

Cholesterol, high blood pressure linked with Alzheimer's risk
New research suggests a genetic tendency toward certain forms of higher blood pressure and cholesterol may increase the risk of Alzheimer's. Study participants from a large European population with certain genes that led to higher levels of HDL, or "good" cholesterol, had a slightly higher chance of developing Alzheimer's. Researchers said they found a similar increased risk for people in the study with the genes responsible for higher systolic blood pressure. Learn more.

People living with Alzheimer's may feel anxious or agitated
Anxiety and agitation in someone living with Alzheimer's or another dementia may be caused by a different medical condition or other circumstances that affect their ability to think. We have tips to help prevent or reduce agitation. Learn more.
