NARFE November 2024

Throughout National Family Caregivers Month in November, we're honoring the millions of family members and friends who are dementia caregivers. While caregivers are heroes at the heart of the Alzheimer's journey, even heroes can't do it alone. Whether it's providing daily caregiving, participating in decision-making or caring about a person living with the disease, the Alzheimer's Association® provides resources to help, like our 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) and caregiving resources at alz.org/care. Your dedication helps provide support and essential resources like these, and we are incredibly grateful for our NARFE partners. Thank you for your ongoing commitment in the fight to end Alzheimer's!

Alzheimer's disease may damage the brain in two phases
Alzheimer's may damage the brain in two distinct phases, according to a new study. Researchers said that brain scans showed an early, slowly occurring phase appears to lay the groundwork for a second, more destructive phase of the disease. Additional research is necessary, but studies such as this could help in the development of future treatments. Learn more.

It may be difficult to tell symptoms of Alzheimer's and depression apart
Depression is common among people living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, especially during the early and middle stages. Identifying depression in someone living with the disease can be difficult since the conditions share similar symptoms. Learn more.

We have resources for the LGBTQ+ community
The LGBTQ+ community may face challenges related to Alzheimer's and other dementia, including finding inclusive and welcoming health care providers, less ability to call upon adult children for assistance, concerns about stigma, and higher rates of poverty and social isolation. Our resources can help. Learn more.

Help kids and teens understand Alzheimer's
When a friend or family member is living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, kids and teens may feel upset, confused or scared. We have resources to help them learn about Alzheimer's and to understand how it affects them. Learn more.
