Crystal and John Beuerlein
As a senior executive at Edward Jones Investments, John Beuerlein led an effort to identify a charitable health care cause for the firm to champion. Thanks in large part to his leadership, Edward Jones staff and constituents have raised more than $45 million for the Alzheimer’s Association to date.
Neither John nor his wife, Crystal, has a family tie to Alzheimer’s, but the connection they formed through John’s work before he retired opened their eyes to dementia’s devastating effects. In 2015, the couple joined the Zenith Society, designating their gift to high-potential research studies. John also became co-chair of the Association’s Step Up the Pace initiative, which raised nearly $110 million for Alzheimer’s research in its first four years.
In 2018, the Beuerleins became charter members of the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) Leadership Society, a group of donors working to advance public policy, research and support for the disease through advocacy. In addition, John leads a team in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® and Crystal’s contract bridge league supports the Association via The Longest Day®, a fundraising event held each June.
In recognition of their wide-ranging contributions to the cause, the Alzheimer’s Association honored John and Crystal with the 2024 Jerome H. Stone Philanthropy Award for Alzheimer’s Research.
“Being of service to others is why we think we’ve been put on this planet,” John says. “Crystal and I hope the example we set will encourage others to stretch in their efforts to make our communities better places to live and enjoy their families late into their lives.”
