Jay Hughes, CRMA, Legacy Memory Care at OceanView
Jay Hughes began his career as a group home manager for adults with developmental disabilities. In this program, adults learned how to attend to their daily living skills, participate in social development groups, learn coping skills, and participate in educational groups. During this time, Jay developed a special fondness for working with people with disabilities and special needs. He enjoyed working with youth with developmental disabilities, and, with his mother, helped develop a youth program that focused on daily life skills, socialization, academics, medication management, health management, and activities.
In 2018, Jay made a career decision to become a CRMA and became a private caregiver for a gentleman that resided at OceanView at Falmouth. After this gentleman passed, Jay was hired on at Falmouth House at OceanView assisted living in 2019 as a CRMA and caregiver. In 2020, he moved to Legacy Memory Care at OceanView to work with people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. This population has a special place in his heart, and he wanted to develop more skills and learn different techniques, tools, and strategies since his mother had recently been diagnosed with Dementia. He utilized the skills he learned through Legacy to provide the best care possible for his mother through the end of her life a few months ago. With what he’s learned, he continues to use these skills to provide enriching opportunities for the residents he cares for and serves at Legacy Memory Care.
Jay says that every day is a new learning experience and to not take anything for granted. He enjoys spending time with Legacy residents and participating in life-enriching activities. He loves to listen to music with the residents because music provides them with so much joy and happiness. Jay also assists with the facilitation of the Alzheimer’s Walk at OceanView.
