(Columbus) - Vince McGrail, Executive Director and CEO of the Alzheimer's Association Central Ohio Chapter, issued the following statement today regarding the introduction of Senate Bill 348, legislation creating an official Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Task Force to develop a state Alzheimer’s action plan:
“This is a critical next step in the effort to prepare Ohio for the growing impact of Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases. The creation of a state plan is essential to improving the services and support provided to people with dementia and their families. And we now know that changes happen in the brain years prior to symptoms, making awareness, prevention and risk reduction essential at younger ages. Simply put, Alzheimer’s disease is a public health crisis that requires all of Ohio’s state and local government infrastructure to be prepared.
We are grateful that Senator Wilson is taking the lead on getting that process underway. This builds on the important work that’s already been done by the Ohio House’s Task Force on Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and we look forward to participating in a meaningful dialogue about how to best confront this growing public health crisis.”
