ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION INVITES WILMINGTON AND AREA RESIDENTS TO JOIN 2025 WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S ON OCTOBER 18

Walk to End Alzheimer’s Is World’s Largest Event Dedicated
to Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research

September 18, 2025 – The Alzheimer’s Association invites Wilmington and other local area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Wilmington on Saturday, October 18 at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments that can change the course of the disease,” said Meg DiPanni, Vice President of Development, Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter. “We hope that everyone in our community can join us by starting a team to help the Alzheimer's Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments, and finally end this disease.”

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden
ceremony—a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease.

During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease. One designated person per color will take the stage and their personal story will be featured:

    ● Yellow: A person who is currently supporting or caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s.
    ● Purple: An individual who has lost someone to the disease.
    ● Orange: A participant who supports the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without
    Alzheimer’s and other dementia.
    ● Blue: Someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
    ● White: A child(ren) whose presence represents the promise of a future world without
    Alzheimer’s.

    When: Saturday, October 18, 2025
Time: Registration opens at 8 a.m. | Promise Garden Ceremony at 9 a.m. followed by the Walk
Where: Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park | Rosa Parks Drive | Wilmington, DE 19801

Participation: The event currently has 555 registered Walkers forming 111 teams (and counting) with a revenue goal of $283,000.

More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease—a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 12 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Delaware, there are more than 23,300 people living with the disease and 32,000 caregivers.
