Maryland Alzheimer's Advocacy Day
The 2026 Maryland Alzheimer's Advocacy Day was held in February. Advocacy Days are a chance to meet with Maryland state legislators, share your story, and advocate for policies that help end Alzheimer's disease and other dementia. By joining us you can help influence state policy, connect with fellow advocates, and make a real impact for Maryland families affected by dementia.
Thanks to the voices of advocates, 2026 was a year of progress in the fight against Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Together, we advanced state policies that will improve care, support families, and strengthen our state’s response for the years to some.
- Equipping Maryland healthcare providers with the tools they need to provide dementia-capable care through establishing a statewide Provider Resource Toolkit for Dementia Care (SB 555/HB 446).
- Strengthening Maryland's capacity to meet the growing demand for dementia services by establishing a Dementia Services and Brain Health Program within the Maryland Department of Health (SB 555/HB 446).
- Securing $250,000 in Maryland's FY27 budget to fund dementia education and awareness initiatives for healthcare providers (SB 282/HB 390).
Why Advocate?
Maryland advocates have a history of impact. In 2025, advocates met with state legislators to advance bills designed to support people living with dementia and their family caregivers, that included:
- Establishing a dementia data dashboard in Maryland
- Raising awareness about FDA-approved treatments
- Preserving $2.4 million in annual funding for the dementia navigation program
Other recent legislative successes include establishing both the Dementia Navigation Program in the Maryland Department of Aging and the Director of Brain Health and Dementia Services in the Maryland Department of Health.
