“As with the House, the Senate’s proposed Medicaid changes avoid alternatives that would be the most harmful for people living with dementia. Nevertheless, the proposed Medicaid reductions would impact this community. Millions of Americans rely on Medicaid to access the essential care to help them remain at home longer and access nursing home care when the disease progresses. Medicaid is the only federal program that covers these services. The Senate proposal would threaten that lifeline.
“We urge Congress and the Administration to protect this critical program. We are grateful for the strong bipartisan support we’ve received from champions in Congress, and we stand ready to work with lawmakers to ensure Medicaid remains strong for all families facing dementia.
“Dementia is not only a health care crisis. It’s a growing financial crisis for individuals, families, and federal and state governments. While we continue to make significant strides in the treatment and prevention of this disease, the growing impact of Alzheimer’s and dementia today demands a strong and sustainable Medicaid program.”
