Statement from the Alzheimer’s Association on Lawsuit Against DPRIT

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 20, 2025 — The Alzheimer’s Association is deeply concerned by the lawsuit seeking to block the implementation of Proposition 14 and the creation of the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT). This legal challenge undermines the will of nearly 70% of Texas voters who overwhelmingly supported the initiative at the ballot box.

Texans sent a clear message on Election Day: They are ready to lead the way in scientific discovery. By voting to fund DPRIT, the nation’s largest state-funded dementia research initiative, they delivered a historic mandate — a beacon of hope, innovation and solutions for Texas. The Alzheimer’s Association championed this initiative because we know what is at stake for the more than half a million Texans living with dementia and the millions of caregivers who support them. We are committed to ensuring that mandate is fulfilled.

Every day without progress means more lives impacted, more caregivers stretched to the limit, and more missed opportunities for breakthroughs that could change the trajectory of these diseases. DPRIT represents hope, innovation, and accountability — values that Texans endorsed when they voted for Proposition 14.

The Alzheimer’s Association stands firmly with Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and all state leaders who championed this crucial initiative. We urge the courts to dismiss this lawsuit swiftly and allow DPRIT to begin its critical work. Texas has the opportunity to lead the nation in advancing research, care, and prevention. The Alzheimer’s Association stands ready to work alongside DPRIT to ensure that this historic investment delivers on its promise for millions of families.
