Palliative care can help individuals with dementia understand their choices for medical treatment, as well as improve quality of life and help with symptoms. There are examples of clinical tools to support early identification of those who would benefit from palliative care approach, such as Supportive Palliative Care Indicators Tool (SPICT). Dr. Grimes plans to collect both qualitative and quantitative data using an established computerized application based on SPICT in a general practice setting in Northern Ireland. This study could help identify individuals with dementia who would best benefit from palliative care.
