Communicating dementia risk in low and middle income countries

Geeske Peeters, PhD
Global Brain Health Institute and Trinity College
Dublin, Ireland

Dr. Peeters proposes to develop a tool for clinicians to communicate about dementia with older adults in low and middle income countries where there is less awareness of dementia. Dr. Peeters plans to use data from the Cuban cohort of the 10/66 Dementia Research Group (which includes data from more than 2,800 participants) and identify key modifiable risk factors of dementia. Dr. Peeters’ goal is then to translate these findings into a communication tool that shares information on known risk factors. If successful, the study can be applied more broadly to communicate about risk and dementia.
