Finding the Right Words: Alzheimer's, Literature, Science

Cindy Weinstein, Ph.D.
California Institute of Technology
Pasadena, CA - United States

Dr. Cindy Weinstein’s project will combine Alzheimer’s, literature and science to develop a memoir about her father’s dementia, which will be co-written with her colleague Dr. Bruce Miller, a neuroscientist and practicing cognitive neurologist.  Dr. Weinstein’s study titled “Finding the Right Words” will employ a human-angle narrative chronicling her father’s diagnosis, memory and behavior changes among others and Dr. Miller’s scientific and clinical commentary to complement the lived experience. Dr. Weinstein will share the completed draft of the book with target audiences that include caregivers, clinicians and researchers. She will incorporate feedback from these readers in her book. Dr. Weinstein believes that creative arts can be used as a tool to create awareness about the brain changes as well as the emotional challenges of dementia, among the general public.
