MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Anita Williams is serving as the 2025 Executive Event Chair of the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the Grand Strand. Williams, who is the Executive Director of Arbor Landing at Surfside, will serve as the volunteer leader of the local Walk, working with Alzheimer’s Association staff and volunteers to ensure its success. She previously served as co-chair for the 2024 Walk, which raised over $283,500.“Throughout my 35 years working with senior living communities, the most rewarding part of my job has been knowing that I make a direct impact on the lives of residents living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia each day, bringing peace of mind to their family members,” said Williams. “Participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s gives me hope for a cure to end this horrible disease.”
Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In South Carolina there are more than 112,500 people living with the disease and 219,000 caregivers.
“Now is the time to raise awareness and support research efforts,” Williams said. “The number of people living with Alzheimer’s is rising rapidly, but there is hope. Researchers are developing promising treatments, with more in the pipeline. If I can help raise money to fuel those efforts, then I can make a difference — and I invite businesses and community members to join me.”
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Plans are underway for this fall’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Aiken, and details will be announced soon.
“We are so grateful to Anita for committing her time, passion and expertise to advance the fight against Alzheimer’s and all dementia,” said Mark Ward, Alzheimer’s Association staff partner for Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the Grand Strand. “With new treatments emerging and more promising prospects on the horizon, now is our moment to keep the momentum going. With the help of Anita’s volunteer leadership, we know that we’ll reach more people and new heights in 2025.”
