He was just a young man when the disease took hold, and he watched as two of the most important people in his life disappeared. Back then, he didn’t know about the Alzheimer’s Association. He didn’t know where to turn, or how to help.
Twenty years later, Rohde found a way to honor them—not with silence, but with stand-up comedy.
On Thursday, September 18, Rohde is hosting Comedy for a Cause, a benefit show at the Madison Club that brings together his love for stand-up comedy and his mission to honor all families who are navigating Alzheimer's and dementia. The evening supports the Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Dane County, and it promises to be as meaningful as it is funny.Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m. In addition to performances from top regional comics Shawn Vasquez, Dana Ehrmann and Jake Snell, guests will enjoy:
- Raffles/auction packages, including exclusive Green Bay Packers experiences
- Light snacks and a cash bar
- Stories of impact and hope from community members
Alzheimer's hasn't just affected Rohde personally, but professionally, as well. As a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley, he has watched several clients decline over the years after receiving dementia diagnoses. This has only strengthened his passion for raising awareness and critical funds, and why he is such a valuable asset on the Alzheimer's Association Wisconsin Chapter Board of Directors.
“What gets me jazzed,” Rohde says, “is how, in the last year or two, we've entered this new era of treatment. It's easier to get others on board and involved when you can show them that funding research has produced two Alzheimer's treatments, with more coming. It's an exciting time.”
Those wishing to attend the September 18 event can visit Rohde's personal Dane County Walk to End Alzheimer's page and make a $75 donation to reserve their seat.
