The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s –Ozaukee County will be held on Saturday, September 26 at Veteran’s Memorial Park Bandshell in Port Washington. On Walk Day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.
“We are at an important turning point in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Advances in treatment and proven ways to maintain brain health are bringing new hope to families.” Said Chris Andersen, Executive Director of Newcastle Place. “By coming together as a community, we can drive meaningful change and work towards a world without Alzheimer’s disease and all other dementia. Now is the time to get involved in this important cause. We encourage individuals and organizations in Ozaukee County to join us in the fight against Alzheimer’s and dementia by forming a team to raise awareness and funds for families facing these diseases.”
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease in the United States. Additionally, nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Wisconsin there are more than 110,900 people living with the disease and 206,000 unpaid caregivers.
