Donate NowAlzheimer's Association invites Stevens Point area residents to join 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer's, Sept. 13
Get ready for a full day of community fun! Kori with a “K” from Hot 96.7 will keep the energy high with great music, and the celebration continues with a Post‑Walk Party and Fundraiser at The Airport Bar.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Stevens Point is led by Chair Carley Prochaska, Dementia Care Specialist at the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County, and Co‑Chair Liz Gagas of Cowhide Café.
“I have been part of the Stevens Point Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s committee for nine years,” said Carley Prochaska. “In my role as the Dementia Care Specialist at the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County, and in my personal life, I have seen firsthand how devastating this disease can be for family and friends who don’t know where to begin. I believe memories are worth fighting for, and events like this connect people in a world where they may otherwise feel so alone.”
The walk features the inspiring Promise Garden Ceremony, where participants carry colorful flowers, each representing a personal connection to the disease.
More than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, one of the nation’s leading causes of death. Over 11 million family members and friends provide unpaid care for those affected. In Wisconsin, more than 110,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s, and tens of thousands of caregivers are supporting them every day. In Portage County alone, over 1,681 residents age 65 and older are living with dementia.
Exciting progress in both treatments and early detection has brought new hope to millions of families. Breakthroughs in medical science, fueled by decades of research, advocacy, and community support, are helping people receive answers sooner and benefit from new ways to slow the progression of the disease. These advances strengthen our determination to keep moving forward toward a world without dementia.
This year, the Alzheimer’s Association proudly welcomes Bill Schroeder, former Milwaukee Brewers player and longtime television color commentator, as the Honorary Statewide Chair for all 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Wisconsin.
