The Alzheimer's Association Mississippi Chapter is dedicated to advancing the care, support, and research to all those affected by Alzheimer's in Mississippi. We offer local support groups, community education, advocacy efforts, and fundraising events throughout the state for anyone looking to become involved.

Dr-Lee-Greer.jpgLee Greer, M.D., serves as Corporate Medical Director for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi. He is certified with the American Board of Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification – Geriatric Medicine. His presentation will discuss the various types of dementia and how they are diagnosed, as well as various risk reduction strategies.

 

9:30am Effective Communication Strategies with Amanda Moore, RN, BSN

She has 19 years of nursing experience with the majority of that being done in Neurology and Gerontology. Her presentation will discuss the communication changes that happen throughout the course of Alzheimer's disease and how to connect at each stage.

She has served the state of Mississippi through various director and grant administrative roles. Sondra will share about the CDC's BOLD program and how it has shaped public health in Mississippi as well as social determinants of health and health care related disparities.

Being a caregiver doesn't come with an instruction manual, but there are resources available to help. Use the free trainings and workshops on this page to gain caregiving skills and practical advice. Courses are also avaiable in Spanish.  These courses can also be presented live virtually or in person.  Email KriDavis@alz.org with any speaker requests.


 

Purple Sundays

The Alzheimer’s Association and the Mississippi State Department of Health will be hosting ‘Purple Sunday’ events at churches across the state to help spread awareness and education around Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementia. Please join us by contacting Kristen White at KriDavis@alz.org to host a Purple Sunday Event in your community.

We host ALZConnected® , an online community where people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers can ask questions and find support.

Community Resource Finder, a comprehensive database of programs and services, housing and care services, and legal experts, allows people to locate resources in their communities.

Alzheimer's Navigator helps guide Caregivers to answers by creating a personalized action plan and linking you to information, support and local resources.

Navigating Alzheimer's and Related Dementia:  A Roadmap for Families

Mississippi State Agency Services for Older Adults is a document that has over 40 pages of local resources including respite care, financial assistance programs, legal services and more.
