Ozama Ismail, Ph.D., is the director, Scientific Programs, at the Alzheimer’s Association. In this role, he leads the International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment, also known as ISTAART, and oversees its activities and strategic vision. Dr. Ismail also manages the scientific programming for the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) and guides educational and skill-building programs across the Association's suite of global annual convenings.ISTAART carries out virtual and in-person programs for over 14,000 members across 125 countries. AAIC is the largest international forum for dementia science and clinical practice, offering a cutting-edge program across all aspects of the field. ISTAART and AAIC bring together and support dementia professionals globally, fostering progress in research and treatment. They offer opportunities for researchers, clinicians and related professionals working in Alzheimer's disease and dementia to advance science through programs, education and collaborative efforts in science and clinical practice.
Dr. Ismail is an award-winning science communicator and podcaster. Further, he is an advocate for improving equity and inclusion and is passionate about raising LGBTQ+ and ethnic minority voices within science and society.
Dr. Ismail holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University College London in collaboration with Eli Lilly & Company. He completed his postdoctoral training at Oregon Health & Science University. He has also carried out scientific research at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, Brunel University and the University of Hertfordshire.
