    Caregiver Education

    10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause changes in memory, thinking and behavior that interfere with daily life. Join us to learn about 10 common warning signs and what to watch for in yourself and others. 

    Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and how to incorporate these tips into a plan for healthy aging.

    Let’s Talk About Health: Caring for Older Adults in Rural New York This free annual conference is designed to address the challenges of providing health care in rural areas by increasing knowledge of population health data, treatment strategies, and supports and services. Both healthcare professionals and family caregivers are welcome to attend. 

    Managing Money: A Caregiver's Guide to Finance Join us to learn tips for managing someone else's finances, how to prepare for future care costs and the benefits of early planning. This program is in partnership with Beta Psi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., NCNW Cross County Section, Suffolk County Dept. of Health Services.

    Understanding Down Syndrome, IDD, and Dementia: Awareness, Diagnosis, and Care This hybrid conference brings together families, caregivers, and professionals to explore how Down Syndrome and IDD relate to dementia. Participants will learn about early signs, diagnosis, and practical, person-centered care strategies through expert presentations.

    Empowered Caregiver Series

    This series teaches caregivers how to navigate the responsibilities of caring for someone with dementia. It features five topics: building foundations of caregiving, supporting independence, communicating effectively, responding to dementia-related behaviors, and exploring care and support services.

    Living with Lewy Body Dementia Series

    This five-part series is intended for caregivers of persons living with Lewy body dementia.

    The Difference Between Dementia with Lewy Bodies and Parkinson's Disease
    • Wednesday, March 4, 12-1 p.m.
    Marla B. Bruns, MD, Phd, cognitive neurologist and co-director of the Memory Center at Rochester Regional Health, explains the difference between Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease dementia.

    Medication Management, Sleep and Motor Issues
    • Wednesday, March 11, 12-1 p.m.
    Join us this week as David Gill, MD, cognitive neurologist and Chief of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, discusses medication management, sleep issues, and motor function changes.

    Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior
    • Wednesday, March 18, 12-1 p.m.
    Ally Pritts, PA, from the Memory Center at Rochester Regional Health and an Alzheimer's Association community educator walk us through a comprehensive guide on helping with challenging dementia-related behaviors.

    Managing Caregiver Stress
    • Wednesday, March 25, 12-1 p.m.
    In this session, clinical neuropsychologists explore important reasons and ways to help manage caregiver stress.

    Connecting with Local Resources
    • Wednesday, April 1, 12-1 p.m.
    In the final week of the series, educators from Lifespan and the Alzheimer's Association discuss support resources for caregivers and people living with dementia.
