The challenges facing dementia caregivers will be explored along with the medicine and science behind dementia-related diseases in two special events held in October through partnerships with the Alzheimer’s Association, University of Denver, and CU Anschutz. Both of the programs are open to the public and offered at no charge.
Dementia Dialogues: Unveiling the 
Science and Care will be presented from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10. A collaborative program between the Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging at the University of Denver and the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado, the program will include two speakers and a panel discussion.
Dr. Scott Horowitz, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at University of Denver, will present the basic science of dementia research as well as new findings from his lab. Dr. Macie Smith, gerontologist, licensed social worker and best-selling author, will share practical tips for dementia caregivers and provide insights to better manage the journey of being a caregiver.

Dementia Dialogues: Medical and Caregiver Perspectives will be presented from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11. A collaboration between University of Colorado’s Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center and the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado, the program also will feature Dr. Macie Smith as well as three University of Colorado faculty members, Dr. Austin Momii, Dr. Victoria Pelak and Dr. Peter Pressman, who will provide an overview of the symptoms, treatments and disease management for different causes of dementia. Participants will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and the other forms of dementia, including frontotemporal dementia and Lewy Body disease.
