Two business and community leaders with extensive histories of advocacy on behalf of the Alzheimer’s cause have been elected to join the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado.

Morgan Albaum, event marketing manager at Sword Health, and Mattye Pollard-Cole, a career educator and consultant to the Colorado Department of Education, have been elected to three-year terms, bringing the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado board membership to 18 for 2023.

“Both Morgan and Mattye are accomplished professionals who have both personal connections to this horrible disease as well as a history of volunteerism and advocacy for the Alzheimer’s cause,” said Mark Thompson, board chair of the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado. “They are outstanding additions to our board who will add new dimensions to our team.”

Joining the Colorado board for three-year terms are:

Her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s while Albaum was in college, and helped her family provide care. She is the event marketing manager at Sword Health, a digital physical therapy company, where she manages corporate sponsorships for national conferences. She served as chair of the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s in 2022.
  • M-Pollard-ColeWeb-(1).jpgMattye Pollard-Cole – a retired career mathematics educator who later became a consultant to the Colorado Department of Education, working with teachers and administrators across the state, Pollard-Cole became involved with the Alzheimer's Association after her husband, Cliff, was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s at age 55. Since his passing in 2011, she has worked with several Colorado legislators (Rep. Mike Coffman and Rep. Jason Crow) as a volunteer ambassador. She also has raised over $100,000 for the Association through her Walk to End Alzheimer’s teams over the past 18 years. She resides in Centennial.
“I am very delighted to see both of these outstanding volunteers join our board,” said Jeff Bird, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado. “They understand this disease on a personal as well as a professional level. I believe the knowledge and energy they will bring to our organization will make us all better.”

There are 76,000 Coloradans living with Alzheimer’s disease and 159,000 more who serve as their voluntary, unpaid caregivers. Alzheimer’s is the seventh-leading cause of death, and the only leading disease without a prevention or cure.
