Music can enrich the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease, allowing for self-expression and engagement, even after dementia has progressed. Music can be powerful. Studies have shown music may reduce agitation and improve behavioral issues that are common in the middle stages of the disease. Even in the late stages of Alzheimer’s, a person may be able to tap a beat or sing lyrics to a song from childhood. Music provides a way to connect, even after verbal communication has become difficult. This course will provide an engaging presentation on dementia and music. The Virtual Dementia Tour simulates the obstacles those living with dementia face every day, so that the tour participant will get the chance to see and experience how it may feel to be living with dementia.
During a Virtual Dementia Tour® experience, participants meet with certified trainers who guide them through the Tour and outfit them with patented eyewear that distorts their vision, audio equipment that alters their hearing, and devices that alter the sense of touch in the hand and foot.
All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. This is a free program, but registration is required and space is limited.

Memory Cafés offer a fun and relaxed way for people living with early-stage memory loss to get connected with one another through social events that promote interaction and companionship. This is a place where the care partner can receive information while connecting and sharing with other people in similar situations.
