Research is one of the cornerstones of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer's Association has been involved, in every major scientific advancement, in Alzheimer's and related dementias research since the 1980's and is a leader in the global fight for a world without Alzheimer's.

More than 100 years have passed since German physician Dr. Alois Alzheimer first discovered the amyloid plaques and tau tangles in the brain that characterize Alzheimer's disease. However, only in the last 30 years has research into the causes, treatments, symptoms and risk factors of Alzheimer's gained momentum.

The Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter is committed to advancing Alzheimer’s research through collaboration, education, advocacy and funding.
