JAMES “JIM” IRWIN III TO CHAIR
2024 ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S

Pittsburgh, PA, 1/8/2024 – James “Jim” Irwin III joins the Alzheimer’s Association as the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Event Chair in Pittsburgh.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to play a part in continuing to grow Pittsburgh’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” Jim Irwin said. “We lost my Dad in 2017 after a years-long battle with stroke-related dementia. Last year, I finally found a way to fight back against dementias of all kinds - Walk! I’m excited about the possibilities for involving businesses and teams across the Greater Pittsburgh Area in the amazing work the Alzheimer’s Association is doing!”

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. The Pittsburgh Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held in October at Highmark Stadium in Station Square.

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.

“Pittsburgh is a leader in the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia, and we needed a leader from the business community to enhance our role in the fight, as well as lead our Executive Team, said Lynzy Groves, walk manager for the Pittsburgh Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “Jim’s positivity and drive to meet and exceed goals will be a tremendous asset. I am excited for the Pittsburgh Walk to End Alzheimer’s to reach our ultimate goal of becoming a Top 30 walk in the country with Jim at the helm.”

“Jim and his friends from Crown Castle were able to raise over $8,000 in 2023 within their walk team, where Jim raised about $4,500 of that himself,” Groves continued. “As an incredible motivator, he is exactly what Pittsburgh needs to unite the business community in this fight that impacts Allegheny County significantly.”

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Pennsylvania alone, there are more than 280,000 people living with the disease and 400,000 caregivers.
