Hannah Wieser, Walk Committee, La Crosse
“As I spend time with this population that I adore, I asked myself what else I can do to get involved.”
Hannah Wieser has been on the committee for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in La Crosse for 2 years. She was first involved in the Walk as the Team Captain for her employer, Eagle Crest Communities. Her company team, 55-members strong last year, creates team shirts for their team each year. She inquired about the event and mission and was invited to join the official Walk Committee!
“I have a passion for my memory care residents,” says Hannah who is the Life Enrichment Coordinator at Eagle Crest Communities, an assisted living community. “As I spend time with this population that I adore, I asked myself what else I can do to get involved – and the Walk came to mind.”
As a committee member, Hannah wears many hats. One of her main roles is outreach for the walk: recruiting other professionals to join, retaining past walkers and teams, seeking sponsorships, organizing local fundraisers and general promotion for the mission of the Walk.
She encourages others to volunteer. “We need to raise awareness and get additional funding, so the next person doesn’t have to go through this,” says Hannah. “I wanted to be able to give as much of myself, to help others, as I can.”
Hannah also notes that you don’t have to have a direct connection to Alzheimer’s disease in order to volunteer. “It’s a great cause and I encourage you to start small. Anything you do is amazing,” says Hannah.
