CHICAGO, Dec. 4, 2023 — The Alzheimer’s Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, and
MATTER, the premier healthcare incubator and innovation hub, today launched the second annual Alzheimer’s Association Pitch Competition, a global competition for innovations that increase access to quality, person-centered care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease in underserved communities. Up to five startups will be selected to advance their solutions with key industry stakeholders and pitch their solutions for the chance to win $15,000.
With more than six million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, it’s critical that we ensure they all have access to the care and treatment that they need (
2023 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures). Yet, people often face barriers to accessing quality care due to factors such as geography, language, insurance coverage and high costs of care and lack of transportation, to name a few. And we know that certain communities are less likely to receive high-quality dementia care.
“With multiple new treatments now available for people living with Alzheimer’s disease, we need to ensure all communities have access to quality care,” said Kristen Clifford, chief program officer, Alzheimer’s Association. “The Alzheimer’s Association is committed to maximizing quality care and support, and this competition will help us discover and advance solutions that improve access to care so no one is left behind.”
Toward this goal, the Alzheimer’s Association and MATTER are calling on innovators to submit their solutions that increase access to quality, person-centered care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease in underserved communities to the second annual Alzheimer’s Association Pitch Competition. Up to five finalists will be selected from the candidate pool to receive expert mentorship and exclusive resources to build their solutions and refine their value propositions, as well as pitch their solutions at a final showcase in March 2024.
“People from historically marginalized communities face additional barriers to accessing the quality care they need,” said Steven Collens, CEO of MATTER. “We’ve partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to advance solutions that will increase access to the right care and support for these vulnerable individuals and their families.”
