New York, NY– Buildings across New York City will “go purple” this evening, June 21, to mark Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. Purple is used to signify Alzheimer’s awareness and the participating buildings will light purple to show their support.
Buildings that will light purple tonight are: One World Trade Center, the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, One Five One (151 West 42nd Street), the Helmsley Building (230 Park Avenue), and JFK Tower.
Christopher Smith, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter, says. “We appreciate our partners in the real estate industry for their support and solidarity. I hope people who look up at New York’s skyline tonight are inspired to learn more about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.”
More than 6 million people are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia in the United States and more than 410,000 of them live in New York. The Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter provides free care and support to families affected by the disease across the five boroughs.
Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, created by the Alzheimer’s Association in 2014, is designed to encourage a global conversation about the brain and Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia. People can learn more at alz.org/abam.
