Woman dedicates herself to Alzheimer’s research after mom passes away
On May 15, the Alzheimer’s Association Rochester and Finger Lakes Region hosted a conference for community members interested in learning about the history of Alzheimer’s disease and latest advances in Alzheimer’s research. More than 250 people attended the event in Rochester and almost 50 people watched it live from Big Flats, New York.
Robin McIntyre, a protagonist of “The Inheritance” by Niki Kapsambelis, spoke at the Meeting of the Minds. Many of her relatives from the DeMoe side of her family, including her mother Lori, got an early Alzheimer’s diagnosis. After learning that a deadly gene runs through their family tree, the DeMoes made a decision to enter clinical trials that use their rare condition as a testing ground for experimental treatments.
