Giving Through a Will or Living Trust

A gift in your will or living trust to the Alzheimer's Association is one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to leave a legacy of philanthropy. It allows you to provide for your loved ones and support the mission to end Alzheimer's — without affecting your current financial resources.

Including us in your will or trust allows you to decide how your assets will be distributed, ensuring your loved ones are cared for and your values live on. It's a lasting statement of what matters most to you.

Benefits of a will or living trust

    • Costs nothing today — Your gift is made in the future, not from your current income or savings.
    • Flexibility — Give a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after other gifts are made.
    • Possible tax benefits — Your gift may be exempt from certain state and federal taxes.
    • Honor someone special — Name your gift in honor of someone you love.
    • Create lasting impact — Help ensure people impacted by Alzheimer's and other dementias receive the care, support and research breakthroughs needed.

    How it works

The process is divided into steps, organized in a horizontal row. See this page's text for a full description of giving through a living will or trust.

    • Name the Alzheimer's Association as a beneficiary in your will or trust.
    • You retain control of your assets during your lifetime.
    • You can provide for your family and loved ones and help end Alzheimer's.
    • You can change your beneficiaries at any time.
    • A gift through your will or trust is revocable should your situation change.

Sample Bequest Language for a Gift in your Will or Trust

To leave a gift for the Alzheimer's Association in your plans, we recommend the following language, which should be shared with your attorney and/or financial planner:

"I give [the residue of my estate], or [ ______% of the residue of my estate], or [the sum of __________ dollars] to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc. (the Alzheimer's Association), Tax ID# 13-3039601, whose home office address is currently 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601-7633 in support of its full mission."
