Additional Resources in South Carolina
SC Department on Aging
The SC Department on Aging and our state's aging and disability network can help connect seniors with resources in your community. Their web resource, GetCareSC.com, is especially useful for finding available beds in local care facilities.
- The Department on Aging is rolling out a new regional dementia specialist program that will provide hyper-local information, referral and support, particularly in more rural areas of the state. Stay tuned for more details on the help and resources that will be available, or call the Department toll-free at 1-800-868-9095.
- Short-term respite (time away from caregiving responsibility) is available through a statewide Alzheimer's Caregiver Respite Program, a voucher program available to all informal dementia caregivers, regardless of income. This program is funded through the SC General Assembly and administered regionally through our state's ten Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs). The AAAs also offer additional respite resources through the federally-funded Caregiver Support Program.
- To get a respite application started, contact the AAA region that serves your county. You can see all of the regions and their contact info here. The AAAs can also connect you with additional resources that you may be eligible for, like the Family Caregiver Support Program, Medicare counseling, or senior nutrition programs.
